So says the president of FX. Could Joss Whedon finally be moving to cable?

  1. I think I’d rather see him on HBO or AMC, where in theory he’d have more creative control and freedom. Although, yeah, even FX is better than Fox. I’m not entirely convinced Dollhouse would have been a better show if Fox hadn’t interfered with it — Whedon’s description of the original concept in interviews sometimes doesn’t sound so great — but at least it would have it would have been a more coherent whole. There are things I truly loved about Dollhouse. I think it contains some of his best and most mature ideas, and some of the acting is just top-rate. But as a whole, it’s just such an unwieldy mess.

If he can avoid that on cable, while escaping the constant ratings pressure the networks enforce, that will be great.

  2. A hearty “YAY!” from me if this leads to more Whedon-authored TV in an environment where it can thrive. Dollhouse may not have been a lot better, but Firefly might still be with us if it had aired on cable… snif.
