Since it’s up now on a humble corner of my new department’s website, and given that I’ve signed a contract and everything, I guess I can finally say it here: I’m extremely happy to announce I’ve accepted a tenure-track job teaching 20th and 21st century American literature in the English Department at Marquette University, beginning Fall 2012. I’m ecstatic to be joining such a vibrant department, and very grateful for the warm welcome I’ve already been given by my new colleagues. I can’t believe my luck, and can’t wait to get started.

You may be wondering: will the content of this blog have to change to reflect the change in my position? Realistically, yes, probably a little:

(c) The college or university teacher is a citizen, a member of a learned profession, and an officer of an educational institution. When he/she speaks or writes as a citizen, he/she should be free from institutional censorship or discipline, but his/her special position in the civil community imposes special obligations. As a man/woman of learning and an educational officer, he/she should remember that the public may judge his/her profession and institution by his/her utterances. Hence, he/she should at all times be accurate, should exercise appropriate restraint, should show respect for the opinions of others, and should make every effort to indicate that he/she is not an institutional spokesperson.

We’ll just have to figure all this out together, as one big family: you, me, and the Jesuits…

Now, of course, I’m going to punctuate this post with the same silly Wayne’s World clip I used when I announced all this in the walled garden of Facebook three weeks ago. Please enjoy.

Forward!
