* Mr. President, I’m not saying we wouldn’t get our hair mussed. But I do say no more than ten to twenty million killed, tops. Depending on the breaks. National Security Archive Electronic Briefing Book No. 336.

Aside from the question of whether the crisis would have been so acute in the first place, a labor-oriented Democratic Party almost certainly would have demanded a bigger stimulus in 2009. It would have fought hard for “cramdown” legislation to help distressed homeowners, instead of caving in to the banks that wanted it killed. It would have resisted the reappointment of Ben Bernanke as Fed chairman. These and other choices would have helped the economic recovery and produced a surge of electoral energy far beyond Obama’s first few months. And since elections are won and lost on economic performance, voter turnout, and legislative accomplishments, Democrats probably would have lost something like 10 or 20 seats last November, not 63. Instead of petering out after 18 months, the Obama era might still have several years to run.

* I feel certain this new photo of the Loch Ness Monster will convince even the most dyed-in-the-wool skeptic.

* I should tell you: I’m really only a vegetarian for MMA.

We, the student and precarious workers of Europe, Tunisia, Japan, the US, Canada, Mexico, Chile, Peru and Argentina, met in Paris over the weekend of the 11th-13th of February, 2011 to discuss and organize a common network based on our common struggles.

* At this point I don’t feel as though Wisconsin unions should be offering any “concessions” at all. If anything they should be extracting a public promise from Walker not to bother them again as long as he’s governor. (It should be about a year and change, until the results of the recall election take effect.) I learned in MMA never to help your opponent up off the mat.

* Firefighters, whose public unions are exempted by the bill, lead protestors into the capitol.

* And your all-urban-legends-are-true story of the day: the U.S. military has apparently (if this diarist at Daily Kos is to be believed) been working with persona software designed to allow a single person to manage many online personalities at once. Via MetaFilter.
