West Coasting Again

Off to Vancouver at the crack of dawn tomorrow for ACLA, so posting will be even lighter than usual for a few days. Back Tuesday…

I’m Three Hours Behind You

leave a comment »

Not that the output of this blog has been particularly great lately—I’ve been very busy—but blogging will be even lighter this weekend while I attend the Eaton Conference in Riverside, California. Thereafter it will remain somewhat light (and time-shifted three hours) while I spend the next few weeks doing research in some libraries out there. (Alas, I will probably still be pretty busy as well; the last of my never-ending parade of deadlines this semester isn’t until the end of March.)

If you start to miss me, look for me on Twitter; I may be there more than I’m here…

For real this time. I’ll be back Tuesday, with perhaps a few appearances on Twitter between now and then. Have a good weekend folks.

On Feeling Uncivil and a Little Bit Insane

leave a comment »

And with that decidedly uncivil video posted, we’re off to the rally. As I said I’m going to be focusing on Twitter and maybe Flickr at least until I’m back someplace with good internet connection. Of course I’m not sure how much there will actually be to say—if the event is a mess or one big joke, I think that will pretty much speak for itself…

Mysterious Zipcar Ad

leave a comment »

As you can see I’ve temporarily added a Zipcar ad to the sidebar for anyone looking to split a $50 referral bonus with me. After four years adjacent to East Campus we’ve moved a bit further out this year, and I’ve joined Zipcar just so I’ll have access to a second car on the rare occasions that I need it.

The ad will be gone soon.

Light Blogging

with one comment

Blogging will be even lighter while we travel a bit in Europe. Things should be back up to full strength in late August / early September…

This Hobo Life

with one comment

Posting will continue to be light for a bit as I get the hang of my new life as a hobo. I’ll be back sooner than later.

And At That Thought (Thinking About It) He Began to Laugh

with 2 comments

When he was done he put down his tools. Behind him Orange County pulsed green and amber, jumping with his heart, glossy, intense, vibrant, awake, alive. His world and the wind pouring through it. His hands came together and made their half swing. If only Hank hadn’t caught that last one. If only Ramona, if only Tom, if only the world, all in him all at once, with the sharp stab of our unavoidable grief; and it seemed to him then that he was without a doubt the unhappiest person in the whole world.

Rest Assured

with one comment

Teaching, writing, Polygraph layout, a visiting family member, and the World Cup are making blogging difficult, but I have not forgotten you. There could be a nice-sized linkdump as early as tomorrow; don’t lose heart.

Milwaukee Has Certainly Had Its Share of Visitors

with one comment

Wayne Campbell: So, do you come to Milwaukee often?
Alice Cooper: Well, I’m a regular visitor here, but Milwaukee has certainly had its share of visitors. The French missionaries and explorers began visiting here in the late 16th century.
Pete: Hey, isn’t “Milwaukee” an Indian name?
Alice Cooper: Yes, Pete, it is. In fact, it’s pronounced “mill-e-wah-que,” which is Algonquin for “the good land.”
Wayne Campbell: I was not aware of that.
Alice Cooper: I think one of the most interesting things about Milwaukee is that it’s the only American city to elect three Socialist mayors.
Wayne Campbell: [to the camera] Does this guy know how to party or what?

I’m off to Mill-e-wah-que for a conference at the Center for 21st Century Studies on Debt; my paper is “Debt, Theft, Permaculture: Justice and Ecological Scale.” Blogging will be very light. I’ll be back blogging at better-than-full-strength on Monday.
