Zero Hour, Time to Go

We’re in transit all this week, so I’ll be around very irregularly (and more on Twitter than on here). So long, Carolina! I love you. Milwaukee, you’re up!

I’m apartment-hunting and conference-ing in Milwaukee this weekend so blogging could be light to nonexistent. (Look for me on Twitter.) Back Sunday…

Since it’s up now on a humble corner of my new department’s website, and given that I’ve signed a contract and everything, I guess I can finally say it here: I’m extremely happy to announce I’ve accepted a tenure-track job teaching 20th and 21st century American literature in the English Department at Marquette University, beginning Fall 2012. I’m ecstatic to be joining such a vibrant department, and very grateful for the warm welcome I’ve already been given by my new colleagues. I can’t believe my luck, and can’t wait to get started.

You may be wondering: will the content of this blog have to change to reflect the change in my position? Realistically, yes, probably a little:

(c) The college or university teacher is a citizen, a member of a learned profession, and an officer of an educational institution. When he/she speaks or writes as a citizen, he/she should be free from institutional censorship or discipline, but his/her special position in the civil community imposes special obligations. As a man/woman of learning and an educational officer, he/she should remember that the public may judge his/her profession and institution by his/her utterances. Hence, he/she should at all times be accurate, should exercise appropriate restraint, should show respect for the opinions of others, and should make every effort to indicate that he/she is not an institutional spokesperson.

We’ll just have to figure all this out together, as one big family: you, me, and the Jesuits…

Now, of course, I’m going to punctuate this post with the same silly Wayne’s World clip I used when I announced all this in the walled garden of Facebook three weeks ago. Please enjoy.

Forward!

I have another trip this week, followed immediately by the big Marxism and New Media conference, so there won’t be any updates to the blog until at least Thursday and possibly no significant updates at all until next weekend. I may occasionally glance at Twitter, but that’s it. Sorry. Please, accept some Bruce.

Back soon.

As you can see I’ve been extremely busy the last few days, and I’m afraid this situation will continue at least through the weekend. I might manage to throw up a few quick posts here and there, but it’s not very likely. (There’s always Twitter.) In the meantime, please accept some Bruce, in lieu of my apologies…
