At io9, Annalee Newitz has a brief writeup on my Octavia Butler research, including some of my scattered notes about what the Fledgling sequel might have been like.

  1. How much of this stuff is going to make it into your Butler book? Wasn’t that sort of an introduction/critical survey? I hope that, despite that, you find room for a lot of archives stuff, ’cause this is all fabulous. Or is this a different project?

    • A lot of it actually. The series format is very flexible, and my editor is very excited about the archival material (as well as the sense that the book will be a ten-years-on retrospective). Because Butler was so shy and so private, a lot of the “biocritical” material for the book is taken from her journals and drafts at the Huntington. So I think it’ll work out great.

      • Awesome. Delighted to hear it. Really can’t wait to read it.
