* Freddie deBoer has a new post with a list of liberals who want to be forced to endorse torture if anyone is still interested in fighting about that.

* The @dronestream account tweeting U.S. drone attacks since 2010 has demonstrated that drones have been targeting first responders, which is a war crime.

* “My work did not ‘evolve’ into a serious work. It started like that,” states a somewhat testy J.R.R. Tolkien in response to a request for information about himself and his books from Miss Bradley at the London office of the New York Times.

* Let’s stop sports welfare.

* And DC crosses the self-parody event horizon, rebooting Captain Carrot as a grizzled, drunken space veteran who’s seen it all.

  1. “Freddie deBoer has a new post with a list of liberals who want to be forced to endorse torture if anyone is still interested in fighting about that.”

    Of the people listed in deBoer’s piece, only one (Fred Kaplan) can be characterized as “wanting to be forced to endorse torture” based on the references provided. All the rest are flat-out in favor of torture in certain circumstances. Yet deBoer (and you) seem to believe that he has proved some kind of point about so-called liberals saying one thing yet secretly wanting something else. Nope. The people being quoted are brazen and unashamed about their position on this issue. And that puts them pretty much in line with a frightening national consensus that emerged after 9/11 and allowed all kinds of scary shit to happen in the name of “doing what we have to do”. It’s shameful and horrific and deBoer is being irritatingly petty by using it in such a sloppy manner against a poorly-defined group of people he considers to be political enemies when the problem is so much bigger than that.

    • I’m pretty sure I’ll sign on to your version of this. Well said.

  2. I came back here to post this, as it’s directly responsive to the question I raised in the other thread. There is good substantive back and forth between Scott Lemieux and deBoer and their commenters.
