I’d agree except that a lot of Joss’s work tends to sound terrible in beforehand summary. (Hell, I thought Firefly sounded like a bad 50s SF cliche till I actually saw it.) So I think that maybe he might have made them work, even if it doesn’t sound like it.

Jesus H. Christ that gang-rape as a plot device episode. Does Joss come up with terrible ideas like this all the time and we just never see them because more reasonable folks further down the pipeline try and talk sense into him?

That one got into the pilot though. It seems like it was something he was always going to play eventually. We just got lucky.
