  1. Maybe because he hoped that, without his involvement, the idea would just go away?

I’m not opposed to the the idea of a Buffy spin-off or continuation, necessarily, but the idea of a reboot fills me with dread, without or with Joss at the lead.

I once thought the man could do no wrong, but it’s like the Shepherd Book says: when I was a child I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man…well, that’s unfortunately when I saw Dollhouse and learned even Joss Whedon, too, is indeed very fallible.

  2. Bah, history will redeem Dollhouse.

In Joss’s hands the Buffy reboot isn’t a reboot, it’s a continuation set in an alternate history. He easily could have done BSG-style connections with the original series in a way that would have been quite pleasing for fans.

  4. There’s a lot I loved about Dollhouse. My hyperbole above aside, don’t get me wrong, I’d rather have an interesting Whedon failure than no Whedon at all. And if there has to be a Buffy reboot, I’d like him to be involved. But ultimately I think Dollhouse simply was a failure, undone by lots of different factors. And ultimately I question, beyond the obvious — money — why there has to be a Buffy reboot.
