Maddow v. Stewart

with 5 comments

Jon Stewart explains to Rachel Maddow that he did the Rally to discredit himself. At least I think that’s what he was trying to say.

  2. this interview is actually really fascinating, especially at around the 40 minute mark.

  3. So I kind of see Stewart’s point, but this quote at 15:35 makes his position clear for me:
“Is George Bush Saddam Hussein? Saddam Hussein’s a war criminal. He’s got rape rooms. I know that Bush had the Lincoln Bedroom and some other rooms, but I don’t think he had rape rooms.”

Saddam Hussein was a tyrant, but it seems to me that most Iraqis would have preferred the continuation of his tyranny to the U.S.-Iraq war, with its millions displaced and hundreds of thousands dead. Stewart is yet another one of those liberals who believes that sins of commission (rape rooms) are worse than sins of omission (insofar as destabilization of a country can be called a sin of omission). This is the most specious argument out there. Intention is the worst measure for evaluating actions.

  4. Then at 18 minutes, Stewart starts heaping massive amounts of bullshit at Maddow. “Identify with the Tea Party. Identify how?”

  5. Stewart’s delusions of grandeur: “I’m a climate scientist, and you’re a meteorologist. I look at the entire climate.”
